I was honoured to be featured in the Institute of Internal Communication’s Voice magazine

I was interviewed along with fellow communication experts Sonia Johal Squires, Gareth Cartwright and Laura A. Edgerton to discuss a critical topic: “How to Earn Trust.” 🎙️

It follows from the IC Index 2024 research, which shows only c55% of employees trust their CEOs and leadership teams. It’s clear – and no surprise – that a lack of communications from senior leaders will erode trust.

So here are the 3 key things to do to build trust:

✅Be transparent
Share unfiltered, honest updates. Watered-down comms will undermine trust.

✅Be honest
Admit that you don’t have all the answers. People appreciate authenticity. It’s okay to say, “I don’t know.” Honesty will boost trust and credibility.

✅Be visible and dial up the comms during change
This is when people need it the most. Increase the frequency and promote two-way dialogue. This will mitigate speculation, rumours and uncertainty.

And don’t rely on AI if you want to be trusted! 🤖
