While AI is hurtling at F1 speed, governance is still harnessing the horse. ๐Ÿด

Total cart-before-horse situation! (Read on to see why)

Had a great day delivering the fourth iteration of ๐€๐ˆ ๐ข๐ง ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐“๐จ๐จ๐ฅ๐ค๐ข๐ญ: ๐’๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐–๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  & ๐„๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง with the Institute of Internal Communication to attendees from software, energy, utilities, retail, education, insurance and the care sector, plus someone joining from as far afield as South Africa. ๐ŸŒ

One of the key topics we discussed was the cart-before-horse situation. Why?

Because people are using AI:
โŒ Before governance
โŒ Before usage policies
โŒ Before training

Meanwhile, adoption is flying at full throttle. ๐Ÿ

And hereโ€™s what weโ€™re hearing.

Emails are being copied and pasted straight from AI tools, wreaking havoc with tone of voice and style guidelines. Readers are spotting AI-generated content faster than an F1 pit crew changes a tyre. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So alongside exploring the capabilities of AI in comms, we rolled up our sleeves and made a start on governance together.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Hot tip for internal communicators:

If the governance conversation hasnโ€™t started in your organisation, lead it. โœ…

The role of the internal communicator is evolving. AI governance in comms should be part of that evolution, along with training employees to ensure consistency and credibility in their comms. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

Attendees left armed with practical checklists and takeaways from deep discussions on topics including: appropriateness of AI usage, transparency and honesty, ownership and accountability and more – ready to create their own guidelines. ๐Ÿ’ก

(BTW, Iโ€™ve been watching a lot of F1 lately with my husband. ๐Ÿ˜‰)
